Education

Spencer County has two superior school districts, each rated as a “Best Buy”, the highest school rating afforded by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. Many of Spencer County’s schools also carry the “Four Star” designation for academics. Each district has strong athletic traditions.  There are two High Schools, two Middle Schools, six Elementary Schools, and one Parochial school. 

 

North Spencer County School Corporation

 

Heritage Hills High School (Grades 9-12) 

Received Four Star Awards for the 2001-2002, 2005-2008, 2011-2012 school years.  Received the Best Buy Award 2000-2009 as well as being named Head of the Class in 1999, 2002, and  2004.

Heritage Hills Middle School (Grades 7-8) 

Received Four Star Awards for the 2005-2010 school years.

Chrisney Elementary School (Grades K-6) 

Received a Four Star Award for the 2009-2010, 2011-2012 school years.  Honored with the National Blue Ribbon Award for the 2010-2011 school year.

Lincoln Trail Elementary School (Grades K-6)

Received Four Star Awards for the 2007-2008 and 2009-2011 school years.

David Turnham Education Center (Grades K-6)

Received Four Star Awards for the 2008-2010 school years.

Nancy Hanks Elementary School (Grades K-6)  

Received Four Star Awards for the 2003-2004 and 2008-2010 school years.

South Spencer County School Corporation

 

South Spencer High School (Grades 9-12) 

Received a Four Star Award for the 2010-12 school years.  Received the Best Buy Award  2001-2007, and 2009.

South Spencer Middle School (Grades 6-8) 

Received a Four Star Award for the 1998-1999 school year.

Luce Elementary School (Grades K-5)

Received Four Star Awards for the 1994-1997, 2000-2001, 2008-2009, and 2010-2012 school years.

Rockport Elementary (Grades K-5) 

Received a Letter Grade of “A” from the Indiana Department of Education for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 school years.

St. Bernard School (Grades PreK-8)

Saint Bernard Catholic School is located in Rockport, Indiana. It is the only state accredited non-public school in Spencer County.

79% of the students are Catholic; 21% are non-Catholic.

Enrollment for the 2012-2013 school year is 116; the average student-teacher ratio 13:1.
