Executive Director

As executive Director, he/she, plans and supervises all activities of Spencer County Economic Development under the policy direction of the Board of Directors. The Executive Director is responsible for leading active efforts to attract, expand, and retain business in Spencer County. The Executive Director maintains close relationships with the Board of Directors, private and public stakeholders, existing and potential businesses, and elected officials.

Responsibilities:

·        Coordinates all inquiries concerning potential business development or expansion activities. Including but not limited to responding timely to RFIs, site tours, public and private stakeholder engagement.

·        Develops new programs and plans to increase Spencer County’s ability to attract and retain businesses and jobs.

·        Preparation of annual budget & review of financial expenditures.

·        Partnership development & recruitment (fundraising).

·        Administration of revolving loan fund.

·        Administration of awarded grants.

·        Maintain professional relationships with county, regional, & state partners/officials.

·        Coordinate efforts to promote expansion of housing.

·        Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization & all complete all other administrative duties.

·        Work closely with regional economic development organizations, workforce providers, elected officials, educational institutions, and the business community.

·        Other responsibilities as designated by the Board of Directors.

Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; degree in economics, urban planning, marketing, business or a related discipline preferred.

·        Five years experience in economic development, job and investment attraction or substantial experience within business and industry or as a marketing professional.

·        Certification as an economic development professional (CEcD) is preferred.

·        Ability to work independently & within a team environment, including a diverse board of directors and key stakeholders.

·        Strong organizational, analytical and time management skills.

·        Capable of maintaining information of a highly sensitive and confidential nature.

·        Excellent verbal written, & presentation skills.

·        High level of professionalism to interact with executives, elected officials, peers, and the public is required.

·        Creative and strategic-thinking abilities.

·        Ability to present accurate work with a strong attention to detail in a high pressure, fast-paced environment.

·        Ability to gather large amounts of data, analyze and disseminate in a succinct and effective manner. Demonstrated reporting, data analysis and research skills.

·        Understanding of the changing dynamics of business and what is required to attract business investments to a community.

·        Proficient knowledge in business planning and promotion, market analysis, relevant municipal legislation and financial management.
