    Encourages the continual enhancement of the available workforce while assisting employers in identifying trained workers who are qualified for specific tasks

    Administered through the Indiana Department of Workforce Development as a part of the Energize Indiana plan, the WorkKeys program provides job profiling and worker assessments to help meet employment needs.

Training Assistance in Spencer County

  • Project Excellence
    One of Indiana’s newest workforce development programs, Project Excellence, is already gaining widespread attention. The two-year pilot project was developed to address workplace basic skills deficits in Spencer County’s manufacturing industry.

    Project Excellence is divided into two phases. The first created engineering and advanced technology academies at Spencer County’s two high schools, while enhancing services at its two adult learning centers. The second phase involves transforming an adult learning center into a lifetime and work readiness facility. An integral characteristic of the project is one that all workforce literacy programs strive for: strong collaboration among business and education sectors.   • Spencer Industries Project

  • Indiana Economic Development Corporation
    Offers grants to help subsidize customized training programs addressing specific skill sets.
  • Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana
    Both existing training programs and customized training programs are offered at the Ivy Tech, which is part of the statewide vocational education system

A Hudson Institute study indicates the above is not a true representation of the actual available workforce. Companies locating in Southwest Indiana are finding excellent workers. New area companies have received as many as 20 applications for every available position.

Commuting Patterns in and out of Spencer County
Over 2,100 commuters come to Spencer County to fill positions. The majority of these commuters are from the neighboring Indiana counties of Daviess, Dubois, Perry, Gibson, Warrick and Vanderburgh in Indiana and Daviess and Ohio Counties in Kentucky. These counties offer an available workforce to compliment that which already exists in Spencer County.
